I had to actually critique the patch a little bit from it original form before i got the end result you hear in that file. you actually have to bring the release on it all the way up or close or it comes to a stop after releasing the key note. just to give you a heads on the synth, its default setting are not in the release mode. Hey Orion, That will have to wait until this coming Friday or Saturday when I'm back at the studio. The YC-45D "Bird" sound just has a repeating amplitude or filter decay but no square LFO to pitch effect, which is in the Enigma version. The latter falling star sound is also used in Sarah Brightman's "In Paradisum", in which Peterson was also involved. In some instances the LFO sounds slower than other instances, perhaps because he played the sample at a different pitch (I haven't sampled and compared the different instances to prove this yet. I think the latter version originally came from one of Frank Peterson's synths and Cretu sampled it to use on later albums. Then there's the more "plain" square-LFO-to-pitch variant heard all over Principles of Lust and on many other tracks on the first 3 albums. The glassy one from the Sandra track (which you can also hear in Return to Innocence and other tracks) sounds like something sampled, layered and pitched down. There are multiple variations on the "falling star" type sound he used. Sound starts rolling down the same way, while the transients have exact same pattern, with a bit of reverb added on the Enigma track.Which Enigma track did you pull from? Quick forensics shows its a sampled version of the "falling glass" sound from his earlier work that appears on Sandra's record. Similar to the PCM70 not being a low-end unit.

Sure, affordable compared to the full blown Lexicon units, but by no means a low-end unit. It was Yamaha's attempt to get a more affordable version out of their REV1 reverb (which seems to be kind of a direct competitor product to the Lexicon 224). Regarding the REV7: today, these are very cheap units but back in the day, the REV7 was pretty top of the line. Heard some of the stuff after that but didn't like it much. The songs on there seem to feel more coherent to me. The screen behind the mirror is my favourite Enigma album though. These include the JD990, JV1080, JV2080 (Taj Mahal preset is Beyond the Invisible if I remember correctly), these 1 rack unit Roland expansion modules which basically are like one of those JV cards (can't remember what these were called), also Korg Wavestation A/D and SR, Korg Triton rack, Trinity rack, Yamaha FS1R, and I think at some point also the CS6R. Later he added most rack units Roland released in the 90ies. Ethnic music, pop/rock (Fading Lights and Dreaming While You Sleep from Genesis ended up in Enigma songs on the second record), sample discs from Spectrasonics (Voices of Asia and Voices of Africa were pretty prominent if I recall correctly). From what I remember from a topic on a different board: Roland D550, MKS80, TR909, TR808, Yamaha TG77, TX816, Korg Wavestation (EX?), Akai S990, Akai S1000, Emu Emulator.Ĭretu sampled a lot. Cretu moved to romplers around this period as they became widely available.
